Power

Power States

NayaCreate has 4 primary power states: OFF, ON, IDLE, and SLEEP. The ON and OFF states are controlled with the physical switches on the side of each keyboard half. Note that because there are two keyboard halves, you have to turn them ON/OFF individually.

SLEEP and IDLE are controlled by timeouts. If NayaCreate does not detect any input for a preset amount of time, it will first enter IDLE mode, then after another preset time without input it will enter SLEEP mode. To wake NayaCreate from either mode, press any keyboard key.

The goal of IDLE mode is to preserve power with as little disruption to usability as possible. When NayaCreate enters this mode, LEDs on both keyboard halves are turned OFF as well as both connected modules. Bluetooth, USB, and keypresses remain active. To wake NayaCreate, press any key on either keyboard half.

The goal of SLEEP mode is to preserve power when no interaction is detected for a longer period of time. Everything except for the key-matrix is turned OFF. This includes modules, LEDs, Bluetooth, USB data, and key processing. To wake NayaCreate, you will have to press a key on the left keyboard half and one on the right keyboard half. It will take 1-2 seconds for the keyboard halves to wake up and reconnect.

Batteries

In a typical NayaCreate setup, comprising two keyboard halves and 2 modules, there are 4 batteries in total. There are two internal batteries (one in each half) and two main batteries (one in each module).

The internal batteries in each half are intended to be used during hot-swap of modules. Although each battery can power a keyboard half for up to two hours, we strongly suggest to avoid using them in this way as charging the internal battery will take several hours(this has been done for longevity). As a general rule of thumb, a NayaCreate half should be disconnected from power (no USB and no module) for a maximum of 30-60 seconds, plenty of time to change out a module.

The module batteries vary in capacity. As of writing this article NayaTouch has a 700mA battery, NayaTrack has a 600mA battery, and NayaTune has 1100mA battery. During normal usage, every module should last at least two full work days with the LEDs at 40% brightness. Turning OFF the LEDs will increase the operating time nearly 100% when comparing to 40% brightness duration and nearly 200% when compared to 100% brightness.

How to Charge NayaDevices?

To charge NayaCreate and NayaModules, you have two options: USB & Wireless Charging. To make sure everything is charged in one go with the least amount of hassle, we recommend charging both keyboard halves and modules using USB. For this, simply plug in your NayaCreate Left and Right keyboard halves using USB-C to USB-C cables into USB3.0(or greater) ports and the modules into NayaCreate and let everything charge while in the ON power state on the keyboard halves. You may use your NayaCreate and NayaModules while they are charging.

Note that for safety reasons it is not possible to charge NayaModules using NayaCreate and USB while the keyboard halves are in the OFF power state.

Wireless charging is limited to the modules only, meaning that only the modules have a wireless charging coil inside them. To charge a module using wireless power, disconnect a module from NayaCreate and place is on a wireless charger. If the wireless charger and NayaModule are compatible, rarely they are not, the module will power ON and start charging. If the module does not power ON, you may need to reposition the module on the charger or the module and charger may be incompatible. It can take anywhere between 2-5 seconds for the module to power ON depending on the wireless charger.

Connectivity - Bluetooth & USB

General

NayaCreate can connect to 1 USB device and up to 4 Bluetooth devices simultaneously. Note that NayaCreate will output to only one device(active device) at a time even if multiple devices are connected.

At any point during the operation of NayaCreate, you are able to change the currently active device by using a keyboard action which must be assigned in your keymap. The default Naya keymap templates place the active device management on the System layer (number 2).
